Secure Your Health with UAE Basic Health Insurance for
Private Sector Employees & Domestic Workers – Starting January 1, 2024
UAE Basic Health Insurance is a new regulation set to be enforced starting January 1, 2024, requiring all private sector employees and domestic workers across the UAE to have access to affordable healthcare. The new law ensures that both employees and domestic workers are covered under basic medical plans, providing them with access to essential healthcare services like doctor visits, hospital stays, and emergency treatment. This initiative aims to ensure a healthier workforce in the UAE while also promoting a more balanced and supportive work environment for employees.
The UAE government’s decision to enforce basic health insurance comes in line with the country’s commitment to improving public health and increasing the overall well-being of all individuals working within the country. For the first time, both private sector employees and domestic workers, including nannies, housemaids, drivers, and other similar positions, will be guaranteed health insurance coverage under the law.
Private sector employees: This includes all individuals working in any private company in the UAE, regardless of their nationality or job role. Employers are required by law to provide health insurance coverage to their employees.
Domestic workers: All domestic workers, including maids, drivers, nannies, gardeners, and other similar roles, will also be required to have basic health insurance coverage. The responsibility of obtaining health insurance for domestic workers lies with the employer, typically the sponsor of the worker.
